Built in 1974, the Evanston Ecology Center has welcomed generations of residents, serving as a place to learn, connect, and explore the natural world. STRUXC managed the renovation of the Center, which was completely redesigned to include a new reception area, new offices, a new kitchen, and upgrades to the existing bathrooms. The redesign features a welcome desk, new finishes, modern lighting, and a more efficient layout.

The renovations went beyond aesthetics. The years had taken a toll on the building’s structural framing, which was constructed over a damp crawl space. The flooring was replaced, and a new concrete slab was placed over a new waterproofing system. Other renovations included a new roof system and extensive utility upgrades. Technical upgrades included an all-new electric HVAC system and state-of-the-art vacuum-insulated roof panels to enhance energy performance and meet the city’s LEED Gold Certification.

Through careful coordination and collaboration with Central Rug and Carpet, Nurture Architects, and the City of Evanston, STRUXC successfully helped deliver a durable and energy-efficient facility that will continue to support community programs for many years.
