Completed in 1905, Cornell Square Fieldhouse was created during a time when Chicago was rethinking the role of neighborhood parks. Designed by the Olmsted Brothers and Daniel H. Burnham & Co., Cornell Square was part of a revolutionary park system created to bring recreation, community resources, and new opportunities to neighborhoods throughout the city.

STRUXC is helping preserve this important community facility through the historic rehabilitation of the Cornell Square Fieldhouse for the Chicago Park District. Phase 1 focused on improving accessibility, safety, and functionality while respecting the character of the historic facility. Work included a new ADA ramp and handrail at the west entrance, four ADA ramps providing access to the pool deck, renovated dressing rooms, two new gender-neutral bathrooms, ADA-compliant doors and hardware, and code-compliant emergency lighting.

These improvements help ensure this more-than-century-old fieldhouse remains a welcoming, accessible, and functional part of the community for years to come.
